TerraCycle Review & Giveaway...

You all already know how important I feel it is to do our part to make the environment a big priority in our lives and in the lives of our children.  I mean we all want there to be an actual planet here for future generations, don't we?  So, in my quest for a better environment I came across what may just be the coolest program....TerraCycle.

Terracycle was founded in 2001 and is currently one of the fast growing eco-friendly manufacturers in the world.  What exactly IS TerraCycle you ask?  In a nutshell, TerraCycle makes cool stuff from your trash.  Seriously.  I am absolutely in love with this company.  Their mission is to eliminate waste by taking what others deem trash and turning it into affordable, eco-friendly items for purchase.  Brilliant!  Here are just some of the innovative items you can purchase thanks to TerraCycle:  pencil cases made from Chips Ahoy packaging, backpacks made from drink pouches, kites made from Skittles packaging, laptop cases made from juice pouches and 3 ring binders made from chip bags.  Isn't this just one of  the most creative things you have ever heard??

TerraCycle sent me a lunch bag and a pencil case made out of drink pouches. These items are SO much fun and SO usable.  A&W are heading to pre-school this fall and they can't wait to bring along their cool lunch box and I have already been informed that I have to buy them another so they each have their own....no problem!   On top of being eco-friendly and fun, the items I received were very well made and at $3 for the pencil case and $7.99 for the lunch bag you can't miss.

You can even send your trash to TerraCycle for them to use for these cool products while earning money for your non-profit.  Simply join (or start) one of TerraCycles brigades and start collecting.  For more information on how to get started check out their website here.  You can also visit their website to purchase these fabulously innovative products.  Click here to purchase.

Something very exciting is happening for this great company this coming weekend.  You can learn all about TerraCycle in a very behind the scenes way.  On Saturday August 21st, National Geographic will air three all-new episodes of Garbage Moguls, an inside look at the zany way TerraCycle develops products made completely out of trash. Led by Princeton University drop-out  and worm poop connoisseur Tom Szaky, the show follows TerraCycle's team of young "eco-capitalists" as they brainstorm, argue over, go dumpster diving for, and eventually create new products.

During the Garbage Moguls marathon, fans can follow the TerraCycle  crew on Twitter live from Tom Szaky's viewing party as they tweet  behind-the-scene info (and any funny things that happen at the party!) during the broadcast.  Follow @TerraCycle and use #GarbageMoguls to get in on the conversation!
Also, Facebook fans can enter to win cool TerraCycle prizes by answering trivia questions during each episode.

Be sure to tune in starting at 8 (EST)!  I know I will be watching!!

Good news, readers!  Terracycle is giving one Reviewed By Mom reader their very own lunch bag and pencil case....just in time for back to school.  Here is how to enter...

I think it's brilliant that you can help TerraCycle make 'new' products by sending them the raw materials (i.e., juice bags, candy wrappers, etc.). How awesome is that?! I love the idea that I could participate in the making of something so cool, and I know my kids would, too!

Thanks!
