Pirate Brand snacks. I am sure you know the ones...they make all the "booty" snacks. In my family we love, love, love the Veggie as well as the Aged White Cheddar varieties. My boys are also very keen on the Tings. Because we are already such fans of their snacks I was super excited when I received the opportunity to try out Pirate Brands version of the potato chip, Potato Flyers.
Now, I like real potato chips. You know, the ones that are really bad for you! I am not such a fan of many of the baked chips on the market because, to me, they are very thin and brittle. When I saw Potato Flyers were baked I was a little leery but I figured if someone could get it right Pirate Brands could!
Potato Flyers come in four flavors: The Original, Sour Cream & Onion, Homestyle Barbeque and Sea Salt and Vinegar. I decided to try out the original first and see how it compared to both the "old school" potato chip as well as the baked ones I have tried and not loved. I was pleasantly surprised. This healthier version of my horrible for you snack is really good! The chip is nice and crispy and not brittle at all. The taste was very flavorful and, really, just as good as a "real" potato chip. On top of being tasty these chips are far better for you than your average potato chip. Potato Flyers are all-natural, gluten and trans fat free and they are only 120 calories per serving! All the flavors are a great representation of their unhealthy cousins too so whatever your favorite chip is try the Potato Flyer version for a healthy alternative. The barbeque is a tad spicy though so be careful there if you are sensitive to that.
You can purchase Potato Flyers in 1.5 and 5.5 ounce bags. The suggested retail price for the smaller size is $1.49 and the larger comes in at $2.99. A great bargain for a healthy alternative! I will still, from time to time, indulge in a bag of high fat and calorie potato chips but for other 99% of the time I will be taking the healthier tasty route of the Potato Flyers! You can find a store near you here or you can even order online here. Go ahead, treat yourself to some guilty free snacking!
