SupberBaby Review & Giveaway...

I love reading parenting books.  Being a parent is a tough job and I am always looking for tips on how to make the children's road to adulthood less bumpy.  I am really excited to tell you about this fantastic parenting book I just finished called SuperBaby: 12 Ways to Give Your Child A Head Start In The First Three Years by Dr. Jenn Berman.  Now, before you think I have gone mad and enrolled Baby R in some super genius program, this book is not about that at all.  In fact, SuperBaby, promotes more of a "back to basics" approach which I really love.

The first three years of life are the most important for nurturing a child's full potential: that's when they start forming attachments, developing a sense of self, and learning to trust. During this time, there are critical windows of opportunity that parents can take advantage of-if they know how. In a dozen succinct yet information-packed chapters, award-winning columnist and professional therapist Dr. Jenn Berman gives parents the knowledge they need.

I could not wait to dive into this book and once I started I could not put it down. It was easy to read and provided practical advice and was really just so interesting.  I sort of felt like I was getting the inside scoop on what Baby R is feeling!

SuperBaby is broken up into twelve major subjects...

Talk the Talk: Respectful Communication

You Got Me! Responding to Cues
Tick-Tock: Creating Security and Predictability
Let Your Fingers do the Walking: The Importance of Touch
More Than Chitchat: Promoting Language Development
Talk to the Hand: Sign Language
Babies Without Borders: Foreign Language
Baby Got Book: Reading
A Different Kind of Toy Story: The Importance of Play
Thinking Outside the Box: Screen Time
It’s Easy Being Green: Reducing Exposure to Toxins
Food for Thought: Eating and Nutrition

Each section is written in a thoughtful manner and gives real advice to the real hurdles we parents face.  For instance, in the "Tick Tock" section I was really struck by the importance of a schedule which is something that can be a bit of an, ahem, challenge for me.  Dr. Berman gave some excellent advice on how to help the "schedule challenged" like me and some of the tips are really making a difference and I know the predictability really helps the kids.

I really enjoyed the section covering books which includes oodles of titles your child will love as well as ideas to help turn your baby into a book lover for life.  I was also partial to the sign language section as I had great success with this myself when I used it with A&W.

To me, this is a must-have parenting book for those early days.  It covers all the BIG subjects you need in a clear and concise way.  This should be on every parent-to-be's reading list and I know I will be checking back to it often.  This is a gem!

I would like to learn more about -You Got Me! Responding to Cues- this is because I would like to have a good communication base before actually having verbal communication. If I cannot read my babies cues then I believe I am lacking somehow in the potential that could be utilized.
