Happy Halloween With Dinsosaur Train...

Are you all ready for the big day?? I think my boys have been ready for weeks. The house is decorated, candy is ready for distribution and the costumes have been tried on (again and again!). We are good to go! To add to the excitement the people at Dinosaur Train (PBS) have some Halloween themed episodes and a great costume available as Spencer Gifts! Have your kids watched Dinosaur Train yet? It is such a great show and one that A&W really enjoy.  It takes two things kids love, dinosaurs and trains, and uses them to teach about science and nature...great concept!

Be sure to check out the PBS lineup to find out when your little monsters can watch Dinosaur Trains Halloween offering and visit Spencer Gifts to grab a costume.  I will sign off with a picture of my little trick-or-treaters masquerading as their favorite dinosaur from Dinosaur Train, Buddy!  Happy Halloween All!!

Rockabye Baby! The Lullaby Renditions of Pearl Jam Review & Giveaway...

A few months ago I did a review of Rockabye Baby's Black Sabbath CD. It was a huge hit at our house and I was so excited when I found out a new offering was on the way from Rockabye Baby...The Lullaby Renditions of Pearl Jam!

Now, I was in high school in the 90's and it was all about grunge. Flannel shirts, jeans and grunge bands were all the rage. Pearl Jam was just about as cool as it came for grunge and I was a big fan. I am actually still a big fan but it all started in the 90's with Jeremy!

When I popped in the Lullaby Renditions of Pearl Jam, all of my favorites were recognizable....Jeremy, Yellow Ledbetter, Daughter and Alive. Instead of the driving guitars and drums though there are sweet, soft bells and other lullaby friendly instruments. Love it! This is a CD you can listen to even if you don't have a baby...slip it into the player and be relaxed while listening to some tunes from your favorite grunge band! Pick one up for yourself and one for your next baby shower (your gift WILL be the coolest!) here.

Thanks to Rockabye Baby, one RBM reader will win a copy of the Lullaby Renditions of Pearl Jam!  Here is how to enter...

Time Buddy Review & Giveaway...

As the mom of two four year olds, I spend tons of time talking about, well, time.  Time is such a tough concept for little ones isn't it?  For instance, if "A" asks "When are we going to the park?" and I say "In an hour" he really does not know when that is which is why he asks that same question 27 times before the hour is up.  This time issue is something I know many other moms struggle with so I was so excited to hear about the Time Buddy.

TimeBuddy™ is an educational tool that allows parents to create a visual representation of an entire day for their children. It combines the functionality of a 24hrs clock, visual icons, and a digital clock to guide young children throughout their day. Visual icons, in the form of stickers that represent activities, are chosen by PARENTS and placed at designated times. The actual 24hr clock will point to these icons giving children cues on when to start and end an activity! It removes the from children the unknown factor of "what are we doing next!."

Oooh...I could not wait to tear into the box!  Giving A&W a visual of their day was so appealing to me!  The boys and I worked together to map out their "usual" day.  We put the nighttime sticker on, wake time, baths, tooth brushing and meals.  The stickers are reusable too so you can change the stickers and add/remove them based on your day.  For instance, there are stickers with balloons for birthday parties, a bus for school, a computer for screen time.  The Time Buddy comes with three sheets of different stickers so you can definitely find something to cover your activities.

As soon as we started with the clock, I noticed A&W began noticing time more.  There was a lot of "Look Mommy!  The red hand is almost at the bike so soon we will go ride bikes"!  Eureka!  The Time Buddy is also helpful at bedtime when they can keep an eye on it and know that play must wind down when the hand reaches our nighttime tasks.

The Time Buddy also allows you to set three different alarms (for bedtime, dinner etc....) as well as record your own personalized greeting!

I think the Time Buddy is an excellent way to help children to understand time management.  I know the visual aspect of the Time Buddy has made a huge impact on A&W and has really helped them to understand the routines of our day.  Thank you Time Buddy!!  I am not alone in my love for Time Buddy.  This is a new product (introduced in August) but it has already earned many awards including The National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval and Dr. Toy's 100 Best Products Winner.

You can purchase your own Time Buddy on the Time Buddy website as well as on Amazon...

When The Snow Comes by Jonathan Allen...Review & Giveaway

Soon (at least where I live!) the snow will be flying.  I have just the book for you and your little ones to get ready for it...When The Snow Comes by Jonathan Allen

When The Snow Comes tells the story of a little Yak waiting to see his very first snow.  He watches as his friends prepare for the snow.  His bird friend informs him that he flies off to warmer parts, brown bear tells him of eating lots and lots in preparation for his long sleep....Little Yak wonders what he should do.  He asks his mom if yaks do what all their friends do to prepare for winter.  His mother lets him know that yaks stay right where they are and that little yaks snuggle up to their moms to stay warm.  The story ends with the first flakes of snow and a mother and young yak snuggled up all cozy.

This is such a sweet book and, I think, a particularly nice bedtime story.  The illustrations are very pleasing to the eye and depict kid friendly animals with lots of animation.  I would recommend this one for ages 3 and up.  This would be a great one to have for those upcoming snowy nights....snuggle up with your little one and get reading When The Snow Comes!   You can purchase this one on Amazon....

Shutterfly Holiday Cards...

The holidays are right around the corner and Shutterfly is ready for it.  I was just on their site and as always they have a huge selection of photo cards and they have a ton of new ones for 2010.  They have offerings for Christmas and Hanukkah as well as for Thanksgiving and New Years.  We have always done cards at Christmas but I am thinking of doing them in honor of NewYears this year for something a little different.  I am thinking one of these designs might be just right for us this year...

Aren't those spectacular? I have always used Shutterfly for my holiday cards and I have always been so happy about the quality, price and the timeliness of completion.  I also really love how easy it is to use the Shutterly site to design your cards.  With sleep deprivation and limited time I can really appreciate a site that makes things EASY!

Be sure to check out the great selection of photo cards at Shutterfly. Remember, the holidays are looming....wouldn't it be nice to have those cards taken care of early this year?!

Do you want 50 free holiday cards from Shutterfly? Click here to go to Shutterfly for information on how you can get 50 free cards this holiday season, and make sure to select Clever 1000 as the referral source.

Smartypants Gummy Vitamins & EcoMom Review & Giveaway...

Back in June I discovered this fabulous company called EcoMom.  EcoMom makes eco-conscious living easy, affordable and rewarding for families.  The website has everything from food to beauty products to wellness aides to clothing and so much more.  If you need it, EcoMom has it!  EcoMom also has this really great program called EcoPass.  This program allows members to receive a 15% discount on every order, free shipping (with no minimum order amount) as well as exclusive offers and promotions.  The annual membership fee is $99.

EcoMom just sent me over something new to try-Smartypants Gummy Vitamins.  The timing of this was perfect as "W" has recently decided that the brand of vitamins we have been giving them are "disgusting".  Good news...Smartypants vitamins are not "disgusting"!  Actually they are downright yummy.  Both A&W gobbled these up like candy and to be sure they were really, really good I tasted them too...yup, really yummy!  On top of being yummy which you can't discount because if you child won't eat them then the nutritional impact doesn't really count, these vitamins have everything you your child needs to keep healthy.  They include...

• Multi-Vitamins,
• Omega 3 eco-friendly fish oils,
• Vitamin D,
 • Choline & 12 other key nutrients.

I love how the multi-vitamin is combined with the omega 3's so  you don't need to buy more than one product.  I also love that both my boys will take their vitamin readily with no fight...keeping them healthy AND happy!  You can't beat that!  You can buy Smartypants Gummy Vitamins here on EcoMom.

Kidtoons Spookley Prize Pack Giveaway...

You all may have  noticed in my Deals & Steals area that I have been listing information about Kidtoons.  I just love this program and am excited to share their deals with you.  Here is a bit about what Kidtoons is and what it provides...

Kidtoons is dedicated to helping parents connect with their kids by bringing family friendly animated movies to the big screen every weekend at participating theatres across the country.

Participating Kidtoons theaters  showcase a fun, affordable family friendly matinee movie and provide a family experience filled with entertaining, kid-friendly characters, as well as cartoon shorts, music videos and sing-alongs before each movie. We even have fun giveaways for the kids, such as stickers, temporary tattoos, activity books or toys after every film.

Great, right?  You can find a Kidtoons theater near you here so you can make time for a special "date" for you and your child!  The film this month has an appropriate Halloween theme....Spookley The Square Pumpkin.  Here is a bit about this fun, family film...

One Day in the Pumpkin Patch, the strangest little pumpkin hatched...Spookley the Square Pumpkin was different.  In a world where "The only good pumpkins are round pumpkins!", Spookley is shunned by the other pumpkins until a mighty storm threatens to destroy the entire patch.  As the storm rages, Spookley proves that being different can save the day. "It's fine to be round while the weather is fair, but there are times it's better to be a square!"  Spookley is a wonderful movie for special needs children as well - reminding all that it's okay to be different.

What a great message this  movie gives to children.  I can't wait to have the boys see this one.  In celebration of Spookley, Kidtoons is giving one Reviewed By Mom reader a Spookley Prize Pack containing:  1 Spookley Plush Doll, 1 Spookley DVD, 4 Spookley Flashlights, 10 Spookley coloring sheets and 2 Spookley books!  Thank you Kidtoons!  Here is how to enter...

Little One Books...Review & Giveaway

There are bazillions (is that a technical term??) of book, music and video choices out there for children.  It can be downright daunting when it comes to sorting through and trying to decide what to pick.  I was delighted to learn about Little One Books: "Books, Music & Video Chosen With Care".  All of the products on the site have been personally reviewed and hand picked based on the benefit to children from birth to age five.  In a nutshell?  They take the guesswork out of it for you!

The Little One Books website is filled with the very best of the best for children up to age five.  Something I really love about the site is that you can shop by age.  Do you have a two year old?  Shop by age and you will find these great products...

Both of these books were absolute staples when A&W were two years old!  Now that they have just turned four I can browse Little One Books recommendations for that age group and know that some of these are sure to be hits...

Browsing through the age three recommendations was how I came across the item Little One Books sent me to review, Rocket Ship Run by Laure Berkner...

This CD has been an absolute smash at our house.  The CD features a mix of folk and jazz music with plenty of fast paced songs as well as some slower lullaby type offerings.  A&W love the huge variety of instruments and it is so cute to hear them sing along with Laurie as well as the children vocalist she includes.  They really do love all the songs but I think Five Days Old would be the favorite if forced to choose!

Something else I love about Little One Books?  For each and every product there is a description as well as extensive information on why the particular item was chosen.  All of this information really goes a long way when you are deciding on what to purchase.  For instance, my decision was made in part by Little One Book's description about the huge number of instruments used on the CD. A&W love music and love learning about different instruments and music types so I thought this would be a good fit for them and it certainly was!

Little One Books makes purchasing books, music and videos for you own little ones so much easier.  Check them out today here and get a gift that is sure to be a hit!

IntelliGender Giveaway...

I have come across a fun product for all of you expectant moms out there.  I am could not try this one out myself as I am not expecting (three four and under is just fine thank you very much!) but I really wanted to share IntelliGender with you. Read on...

For expectant moms and dads who just can’t wait to know, IntelliGender’s Gender Prediction Test provides a scientific, sneak peek into the ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ question as early as 10 weeks after conception, months before an ultrasound can deliver the news.

More than just a whimsical product, IntelliGender’s accuracy rate averages around 90%, according to independent studies and in-house lab tests. IntelliGender uses first morning urine and a proprietary mix of chemicals which reacts with a combination of hormones to indicate the gender.

For moms who are searching for any information possible about their future bundle of joy, IntelliGender is a welcome addition. This test is a fun, affordable, pre-birth experience for expectant mothers who are anxious to know ‘blue’ or ‘pink’- or in this case green or orange. The simple-to-use urine-based test indicates the baby’s gender within minutes based on an easy to read color match- green for boy, orange for girl.

IntelliGender allows the test to be performed in the privacy of home in an intimate setting, making the moment even that much more special.
The test is available at large retailers including Walgreens, Target, CVS/Pharmacy, and Rite-Aid, and online at www.intelligender.com

How fun is this??  I know some of you moms-to-be out there can't wait for you sonogram to find out or you know of some mom-to-be just itching to know if she should be buying pink or  blue!  Lucky for you, IntelliGender is giving one Reviewed By Mom reader a test kit of their own!  Here is how to enter...

.Mandatory Entry:  Leave a comment telling me the very first gender specific item you would purchase once you take the test (or what you would gift once your loved one takes the test!).You must complete this entry for all others to count.

KT Tunstall Tiger Suit Review....

Did you all know KT Tunstall has new CD coming out? I became a huge fan of hers when I became a little obsessed with Dance, Dance Revolution a few years back and would cut a rug to Suddenly I See! I also of course can't help but turn the radio up when I hear Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. I was super excited to hear her new CD and I was not at all disappointed...it is fabulous!

There are some really fun danceable songs as well as some more soulful songs as well.  This is a CD that will be played over and over again that is for sure!  I just really think Tunstall's voice is so beautiful and unique.  Pick thi one up today...you won't be disappointed!

Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewels Review & Giveaway...

Baby R has been teething for months now.  I don't remember the boys teeth taking this long to make an appearance!  She finally has four teeth but there are a couple of others that have been just under the surface for what feels like FOREVER.  I am all about trying to soothe her with anything to make those poor gums stop throbbing so I was really excited to hear about Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewels

Chewable Jewels are the original teething jewelry conceptualized and manufactured by Dr. Helen Bloom Smith, a dentist and mom.  You all already know how I love a mom biz! So, Dr. Bloom created jewelry that your baby can safely chew on....hooray!  I had  pretty much given up on wearing jewelry after the twins were born.  Something about the boys gnawing on some hard gold or silver and those precious pearly whites just freaked me out!  Hello dentist bills!  In any case I could not wait to sport some jewelry again all while giving my gal something to teethe on.  Here is what Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewels promises...

  • Dentist Created and Endorsed
  • FDA approved materials
  • Phthalate Free
  • Lead Free
  • BPA, PVC, Latex Free
  • Waterproof
  • Dishwasher Safe
  • Fashionable

Chewable Jewels are pendants, bracelets, or key chains which can be purchased separately or as a combo set with a pendant and bracelet.  I was sent a bracelet and necklace to try out.  There are tons of colors to choose from and mine is a nice, deep green with hints of brown...

I loved these colors as well...

As soon as I put my jewelry on Baby R took notice and, you guessed it, started to chew right on the pendant!  The pendant is attached to a black, cording necklace (tie this tightly so baby can't pull it off you!) but you can replace it with your own if you wish.  The bracelet reminds me of the jelly bracelets we all had as kids... but a grown-up version now as a thicker, funky bangle!  I think both of these are a fun addition to your wardrobe and allow us moms to wear jewelry again...yay! I am particularly fond of the bracelet which is invaluable when changing the diaper of a wiggle worm.  I hand it over to Baby R to chew on and she is distracted long enough for me to make it through a diaper change without having to wrestle her to the ground!

You can buy Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewels here.  Oh, and I just have to mention, celebrities even love Dr. Bloom!  Check out the picture of Milla Jovovich and Finola Hughes sporting some Chewable Jewels on the site!

The kind people of Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewels are giving one Reviewed By Mom reader a pendant and bracelet set!  You too can wear jewelry again!  Here is how to enter...

Mandatory Entry:  Visit Dr. Bloom's website and check out the combo sets.  Leave a comment here telling me which one you would choose if you won. You must complete this entry for all others to count.

Eebee Books Review & Giveaway...

Remember last week when I told you about an upcoming review I would be doing for Eebee books?  Well, here it is and I couldn't be happier to share these adorable books with you all!  Eebee books are fun and educational interactive books put out for babies up to age three.  Right up Baby R's alley!

The Eebee books I received to review are Peek-a-Boo, Make It Happen, All About Me and You and Here to There.  The basic philosophy for the Eebee Adventure books is the same...Every Baby Learns by Doing.

Eebee's adventures are designed to engage you and your baby with rich play experiences that provide powerful lessons that memorizing letters, numbers, colors and shapes simply can and do not.

Watching and, importantly, “doing” eebee's adventures will allow you and your baby to see and learn first-hand what happens when you explore a crinkly, crunchy, smooth and bumpy paper mountain or roll, bounce, bop, bang, slide and toss your way around a world of balls and ramps.

Don't you just love that? Every baby learns by doing...fantastic and SO true.  We can all have our babies parrot the alphabet but they truly are learning more by playing and experiencing.   What a great message and a super philosophy.  Kind of takes the pressure off doesn't it?  Play with your baby....no problem!

The Eebee books I mentioned are all board books except for Peek-A-Boo which is of cloth.  This is important because if your young children are like mine, paper is an actual food group!   Board and cloth books are the only things that will survive Baby R's voracious appetite for paper.

Now, back to the Every baby learns by doing concept.  Each Eebee book is interactive.  For instance, Baby R an I just read Peek-A-Boo.  This one is a textured lift the flap that instructs baby to find Eebee who is hiding behind a scarf, hat, rain coat etc...So, while you are reading to your baby you are also playing peek-a-boo AND teaching your child about cause and effect.  In Make it Happen, Eebee and some toddler friends show baby opposites like round and flat and off and on.  Baby R's favorite is open and close which shows an image of Eebee and a child opening and closing a book which Baby R then likes to copy.

I really like the Eebee series but more importantly, Baby R really, really likes it.  I think she likes being involved in the story, the bright pictures which include actual children as well as the adorable Eebee.  The words and concepts are simple enough for young ones to understand but interesting enough for them to keep coming back for more.  I would highly recommend any of the Eebee books for any child three and under.  Big thumbs up from me as well as two little thumbs up from Baby R!

You can purchase Eebee books on Amazon or directly from the Eebee website.

I am thrilled to tell you that one lucky Reviewed By Mom winner will receive a prize pack of FIVE Eebee books!  Thanks to Sterling Publishing for this fantastic giveaway!  Here is how to enter...
