Chicken Soup For The Soul: Grieving and Recovering...Review & Giveaway!

I have been reading the Chicken Soup for the Soul books for years.  I find their stories to be inspiring and I always get excited about a new release.  Their latest offering is Chicken Soup for the Soul:  Grieving and Recovering covers a subject I think we can all relate to.  In addition to taking some time to read some of the touching stories I shared this book with my friend and fellow blogger, Colleen.  Here is Colleens take on Chicken Soup for the Soul:  Grieving and Recovering....

Sometimes when you lose someone special in your life you can feel very alone.  It’s easy to think that no one understands how you feel and to turn inward.  Chicken Soup for the Soul Grieving and Recovery aims to change that.  In this book you will find 101 stories from people who have been where you are, felt what you feel, and written about it.

My favorite collection of stories in this book was the first collection; Making the Most of Memories.  Like the authors of these stories I believe that holding on to memories of a loved one is a fabulous way to keep them with you always.  Reading the memories of others in this section even prompted me to remember a few things about my Grandmother that I hadn’t previously.

The poem, Seven Stages Scrambled, was also very touching and made me think.  There seems to be stages out there for everything and grief is not left out.  Seven Stages Scrambled reminds you that it’s OK to grieve in your own way, in the order that works for you not according to some schedule of stages.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Grieving and Recovery is a good book to have around if you have experienced a loss.  Some stories will bring tears, others will make you laugh but they will all help you realize that you are not alone.

Clearly Colleen gives her seal of approval to this book.  I think something that can act as a guide and offer support (and even some laughs!) during such a heart wrenching time is something everyone needs.  You can pick up your copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul:  Grieving and Recovery today on Amazon...

I am not entering this for myself. I am entering for a friend at work who lost her husband AND her nephew within a year.

My tip ... remember the good times and look at photos. And know that time does heal - it takes longer for some people, but it works.

Have faith.

I had a friend give me the book Shattered Dreams. It was so helpful to read this book. Another friend came by once a week to drink coffee while we did my laundry. It was a small gesture on her part that ment the world to me.

when i lost my son to suicide several years ago, one of the things that meant the most to me was a visit from one of our local deputies. he clearly didn't know what to say, but he sat on the couch, held my hand and let me talk about my son and cry. that was so important to me...to allow me to talk about my son. so many others were made uncomfortable by this and tried to "cheer me up" by changing the subject..

I think that it was a book given to me by hospice that was of some help upon the death of my mother. My mother was on hospice for only 2 days. The morning after her death, the minister for hospice came by their home. He had not even been told by Hospice that my mother was already gone. Reading the book later was of some help, but I am still grieving 8 years later for my mom and best friend. I could really use this book.
