I just finished the most bone chilling, heart thumbing, page turner I have read in a long time. Graveminder by Melissa Marr kept me up at night...in a good way! Here is what had me looking over my shoulder while I was in the basement doing laundry...
Rebekkah Barrow never forgot the tender attention her grandmother, Maylene,
bestowed upon the dead of Claysville. While growing up, Rebekkah watched as
Maylene performed the same unusual ritual at every funeral: three sips from a
small silver flask followed by the words, “Sleep well, and stay where I put
you.”
Now Maylene is gone and Bek must return to the hometown—and the man—she
abandoned a decade ago, only to discover that Maylene’s death was not natural .
. . and there was good reason for her odd traditions. In Claysville, the worlds
of the living and the dead are dangerously connected—and beneath the town lies a
shadowy, lawless land ruled by the enigmatic Charles, aka Mr. D. From this dark
place the deceased will return if their graves are not properly minded. And only
the Graveminder, a Barrow woman, and the current Undertaker, Byron, can set
things to right once the dead begin to walk. . . .
Phew...this one blew me away. I couldn't put it down yet at the same time I was sometimes too scared to turn the page. I thought the author, Melissa Marr, did a tremendous job of bringing the characters (even the non living ones!) to life. I could feel the fear the characters were feeling and I swear my adrenaline was pumping like crazy! I thought Marr was especially adept at taking a far fetched subject and making the reader feel like it was entirely plausible. I was swept away into this other world and, terrified or not, I could not wait to see how the ride would end. Graveminder is a terrific mix of ghost story, mystery and even love story with characters you will find yourself rooting for. I highly recommend this book and it can be purchased from Amazon...
I am thrilled to tell you that the publisher is giving one lucky RBM reader a copy of Graveminder! Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter...

Sounds like a good one as I like suspense.
I enjoyed the book, but was a bit confused on who the actual "zombie" started the killing. It was one of those books you finish and go "now I get it", but I don't think that was the intent of the author. Don't know how that got past the publisher of the book. But, it still was a good fast read.
