It has been a reading frenzy here at Reviewed by Mom! Between me and The Queen Bee we have been devouring books and loving every minute of it. The latest book I have to share with you is More than Words Can Say by Robert Barclay. Here is the scoop.....
From the author of If Wishes Were Horses comes a novel of long-buried
secrets and self-discovery, showing us that sometimes what goes unsaid is more
powerful than words. . . .
Chelsea Enright never expected to inherit her grandmother's lakeside cottage deep in the Adirondacks—a serene getaway that had been mysteriously closed up decades ago. This is no simple bequest, however, because when Chelsea finds her grandmother's WWII diaries, she's stunned to discover that they hold secrets she never suspected . . . and they have the power to turn her own life upside down. Even more surprising is the compelling presence of local doctor Brandon "Yale, and Chelsea soon finds her "short stay" has stretched into the entire summer. She cannot put this cottage and her family's past behind her easily—and the more she learns about the woman her grandmother truly was, the more Chelsea's own life begins to change . . . and nothing will ever be the same again. And here is what my guest blogger, The Queen Bee had to say...
Once her husband shipped out to fight in WWII, Brooke Bartlett went off to
the family lake cottage to spend some time away. As time passed, she became
friends with the handsome young man next door, kept from the war because of a
disability. Friends turned into lovers and then a pregnancy. Not knowing which
man was the father, she left the cottage and never went back.
Fast forward to 1999, when Brooke Bartlett passes away and leaves the
cottage to her granddaughter, Chelsea Enright. She leaves the cottage, a
mysterious key and a note to visit the cottage before she sells it. Chelsea
decides to go to the cottage and spend a short week and investigate. Well, maybe
you guessed it already. There is a handsome man who lives next door
named Brandon, and sure enough, Chelsea ends up staying all summer. The two read
the grandmother's diary and discover family secrets. As she learns more about
her grandmother, Chelsea starts thinking of where her own life is
heading...yadda yadda yadda.
Unfortunately for me, this book was filled with too many places where I
just wanted to skip over the details. I just want to be so taken with a book
that I can't wait to curl up and read. Unfortunately, this book was too
predictable. I think this book would fall into the "summer read" category. A
book that you could easily put down to go for a walk on the
beach.
This one is now in my to read pile and I am really looking forward to picking it up. You can grab your copy today on Amazon....
