I just finished up a book that made me think in a different way. It made me look deep inside and reevaluate the things that matter and what is really important. Little Princes by Conor Grennan captured my heart and made me weep with sadness at the unfairness of the world and weep with joy at the beauty of the goodness of people. Here is the scoop on the beautiful and TRUE story...
An astonishing testament to true courage, the transformative power of love,
and the ability of one man to make a real difference.
In search of adventure, twenty-nine-year-old Conor Grennan embarked on a
yearlong journey around the globe, beginning with a three-month stint
volunteering at an orphanage in civil war–torn Nepal. But a shocking truth would
forever change his life: these rambunctious, resilient children were not orphans
at all but had been taken from their families by child traffickers who falsely
promised to keep them safe from war before abandoning them in the teeming chaos
of Kathmandu. For Conor, what started as a footloose ramble became a dangerous,
dedicated mission to unite youngsters he had grown to love with the parents they
had been stolen from—a breathtaking adventure, as Conor risked everything in the
treacherous Nepalese mountains to bring the children home.
I can't even fathom the pain and terror of living through what the Nepalese have. It is staggering and absolutley heartbreaking. I am not going to lie, it was tough to read about the heartache but the goodness of Conor Grennan made it possible. Imagine completely changing your life plan to help others. It is a wonderfully selfless thing to do and I felt honored to be taken along on the authors journey to reunite these families. This book is beautifully written and one I will hold close to my heart. For myself and family, we circulate books we have read and want to read.
I'd like to win the book for our elementary school library - inspirational, great adventure, informative, wonderfully well written - and a call to positive action. Congrats on winning the Christopher Award.
I would like to read it because it makes me think of my husband's uncle and his family who were missionaries in Nepal for ten years. They foster a family of three Nepali girls here in the United States. Maybe they would like to read it too. kristiedonelson(at)gmail(dot)com Thank you.
