Holiday "It" Book List: Cold Light by Jenn Ashworth....Review & Give Away!
I’m sitting on my couch, watching the local news. There’s Chloe’s parents, the mayor, the hangers on, all grouped round the pond for the ceremony. It’s ten years since Chloe and Carl drowned. You can tell from their faces that something has gone wrong. But I’m the one who knows straightaway that the mayor has found a body. And I know who it is.
Jenn Ashworth’s gripping and unforgettable Cold Light is the story of a friendship unsettling in its intensity and of one terrible summer when lies, secrets, jealousy, and perversion result in tragedy more twisted and evil than one unsuspecting community can handle. A dark tale with a surreal edge, it follows two fourteen-year-old girls, best friends, as they confront the dangers of a predatory adult world, where truth is cruelly sacrificed in the name of innocence.
I am not going to lie. This one is not exactly a feel good read. It is rather dark actually. But you know what? That is OK. In fact, it is more than OK because Jenn Ashworth is a master at creating believable characters and if they came across as sunshine and rainbows something be way off in the telling. Ashworth is spot on in describing wayward, bored teens. Laura and Chloe come to life on the pages in a gripping tale that is gritty, edgy and, yes, dark. I found myself wanting to know more about these girls and the people who surrounded by them. I enjoyed the side story of how media and the public can get wrapped up in tragedy in a way that is chilling to think about. I finished this book weeks ago and I can't stop thinking about it. That to me is a real winner! Be sure to grab your copy today on Amazon (by the way....I think this one would make an excellent book club pick).....
I am so pleased to tell you that the publisher is offering one lucky RBM reader a copy of Cold Light. Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter.... a Rafflecopter giveaway
