Born From the Heart by Berta Serrano...Review & Giveaway!

I have a completely lovely book to tell you about today called Born From The Heart.  This magical tale of parenthood will touch you and remind you of what a gift it is to be a parent.  Here is the scoop...

A mother's love comes from the heart, from the desire to embrace and nurture a child—whether or not she gave birth to that baby. This poetic and magical parable celebrates the richness of family as Rose and Charlie embark on the search for the child they so desperately want. As Rose's dream gets closer to coming true, her heart grows and grows . . . until it bursts with happiness, laughter, and wonder when she finally kisses the beautiful face of her new baby.
First time author Berta Serrano and her brother Alfonso Serrano are the author-illustrator team behind this warm and quirky love letter for Berta's adopted son.

This book is a treasure and has fast become a favorite bedtime story for me and Little R.  The tale is one all parents can relate too....the desire to become parents and the immediate love we feel for our child(ren) before they are even born.  From the moment Rose and Charlie hear they are to be parents they "loved their baby to the moon and back".  We watch as the couple dreams of their child and prepares the room.  We watch them get the call that it is time for the "greatest trip of their lives" and as they fly over "marshmallow clouds" to get their baby.  My favorite part of the book is what comes next.  The moment when Rose sees her baby something magical happens, "She felt an extraordinary burst of happiness-a rainbow of colors, laughter, and the most wonderful sounds."  Whether you child is adopted or not, I think this is the feeling you get when your child is born!  I get choked up at this part because I know exactly what the author is describing.  Little R likes the next part best when Rose kisses her baby "one hundred million times" at which time I shower her with bedtime (or anytime!) kisses.  Have a look at this video featuring Born From the Heart and Berta Serrano talking about her process..

Touching, right?  Well it truly is.  This book is a wonderful way for you to connect with your child and to describe to them just how powerful love is.  I also want to mention the illustrations by Alfonso Serrano (love how a brother and sister worked together!).  The pictures are vibrant and whimsical and perfectly bring Rose, Charlie and their baby to life.   Well done Serrano family!  You can pick up your copy of Born From the Heart today on Amazon...

This looks like a great book for me to read this winter, when it's too cold outside to do much of anything.
