Richard Scarry's Great Big Schoolhouse Readers...Review & Giveaway!

Today I have the pleasure of sharing a wonderful series of children's early readers from a beloved author...Richard Scarry. I have been enjoying his books since I was a child and was delighted to share the Great Big Schoolhouse Readers with my three children. This series, just right for early and emerging readers are a fantastic way to share books as a family. Our family received two books from this series, the level 1 reader, Snow Dance and the level 2 reader,One, Two Ah-Choo.  Here are the details....
Down comes one flake.
Down come some more.
See the snow, snow!

Huckle has a shiny new red sled—but what he doesn't have is snow. After many funny attempts to find a solution to his problem, Huckle and his pals decide to do a “snow dance.” And guess what? It works! This Level One story will delight beginning readers even as it teaches them to sound out simple words.

Sally Cat has a cold. One, two, AH-CHOO! Mr. and Mrs. Cat have colds, too, and so does almost everyone at school. It's up to Huckle and Lowly to take care of them all—and that means some messy, silly, Scarry-style fun! But by day's end, Huckle and Lowly are so tired that, oh no: two more to go AH-CHOO!

As I have mentioned, my twin boys are in first grade and really enjoying reading on their own. I like to have a nice variety of engaging books for them to pick up and read.  These two books from Ricard Scarry fit the bill perfectly.  Both books are right on track for where early readers should be with high frequency words and repetition. They are also fun, interesting and full of the whimsy that make Scarry so popular.  My boys sat down and read my daughter both books on a recent afternoon (talk about melt my heart...I love moments like those!) and I was happy to hear giggles over each story and confidence as each of the boys read the stories on their own (mostly).

Snow Dance, as I mentioned, is a level 1 reader which meant it was a bit shorter than One, Two Achoo and the words were slightly less challenging. These books are great to read together for practice reading time.  Something I can really appreciate is that the books are engaging and fun enough that the boys don't mind reading them over and over again which, is so important when children are learning to read (the repetition creates confidence and fluency).

As always, Richard Scarry delivers fun reads that children will turn to again and again.  To purchase One, Two Achoo or Snow Dance (or any of the other books from the series) visit Barnes & Noble HERE.

I am so pleased to tell you that the publisher, Sterling Publishing, is giving one lucky RBM reader a copy of both One,  Two Achoo and Snow Dance.  Thanks so much to the sponsor and here is how to enter... a Rafflecopter giveaway
