Are you hoping to get your middle grade readers flipping pages during these last few weeks of summer? I have a book that I think will captivate even the most reluctant reader. Here is the scoop....
Our Thoughts: This book is recommended for ages 9-13 and both of my nearly 11 year olds loved it. The book is a wonderful combination of a truly spooky tale and a story about growing up in the modern world (bullying, parents splitting up....). The book starts out with the main character David who has moved into a new house because his dad and his librarian mom are no longer together. In the house, Davis discovers a secret room, a mysterious trunk and a carved raven (Poe anyone?!) and from there the reader is on a magnificently creepy ride with David and his pal, Libby.
Kidd weaves a great story full of age appropriate scariness that will keep kids wanting to keep up on reading. Kidd also addresses some of the things kids struggle with at this age, like bullying, with ease and relatability. This book is a great choice for kids who like adventure and a good scare!
