Room of Shadows by Ronald Kidd....Review & #Giveaway! 2 Winners!

Are you hoping to get your middle grade readers flipping pages during these last few weeks of summer?  I have a book that I think  will captivate even the most reluctant reader.  Here is the scoop....
Ever since his dad left, David Cray has had anger issues. So after he beats up school bully Jake Bragg, his mom grounds him in their creepy new house. Bored, David discovers a secret room with an old-fashioned desk, a chest, and a carving of a raven. Suddenly he’s having strange dreams about the room and the house, and violence seems to follow him wherever he goes. Who is the Raven who is taking responsibility for these violent pranks? And why do the pranks resemble Poe’s stories?

Our Thoughts:  This book is recommended for ages 9-13 and both of my nearly 11 year olds loved it.   The book is a wonderful combination of a truly spooky tale and a story about growing up in the modern world (bullying, parents splitting up....).  The book starts out with the main character David who has moved into a new house because his dad and his librarian mom are no longer together.  In the house, Davis discovers a secret room, a mysterious trunk and a carved raven (Poe anyone?!) and from there the reader is on a magnificently creepy ride with David and his pal, Libby.

Kidd weaves a great story full of age appropriate scariness that will keep kids wanting to keep up on reading.  Kidd also addresses some of the things kids struggle with at this age, like bullying, with ease and relatability.  This book is a great choice for kids who like adventure and a good scare!

Buy It:  You can purchase Room of Shadows by Ronald Kidd at your local bookstore or on the Albert Whitman website HERE.

Win It!  I am so excited to tell you that the publisher, Albert Whitman, is giving TWO lucky Reviewed by Mom followers a copy of Room of Shadows by Ronald Kidd. Thanks so much to the sponsor and good luck! a Rafflecopter giveaway
