Class Mom by Laurie Gelman...Review and Giveaway!

How is back to school going for everyone?  I know it can be a really hectic time and some days are easier than others when it comes to getting back into the grind.  I read a really fun book this fall that had me laughing at loud and was just perfect for school mode.  Class Mom by Laurie Gelman is a book you need to put right on the top of your reading list.  Here is the scoop...

Jen Dixon is not your typical Kansas City kindergarten class mom―or mom in general. Jen already has two college-age daughters by two different (probably) musicians, and it’s her second time around the class mom block with five-year-old Max―this time with a husband and father by her side. Though her best friend and PTA President sees her as the “wisest” candidate for the job (or oldest), not all of the other parents agree.
From recording parents’ response times to her emails about helping in the classroom, to requesting contributions of “special” brownies for curriculum night, not all of Jen’s methods win approval from the other moms. Throw in an old flame from Jen’s past, a hyper-sensitive “allergy mom,” a surprisingly sexy kindergarten teacher, and an impossible-to-please Real Housewife-wannabe, causing problems at every turn, and the job really becomes much more than she signed up for.
Relatable, irreverent, and hilarious in the spirit of Maria Semple, Class Mom is a fresh, welcome voice in fiction―the kind of novel that real moms clamor for, and a vicarious thrill-read for all mothers, who will be laughing as they are liberated by Gelman’s acerbic truths.

My Thoughts:  From the very first page I was laughing. I have been a class mom myself and Jen Dixon handled her duties in ways I could only fantasize about.  Let's just say there wasn't a lot of holding back!  Gelman does a bang up job creating characters that fit the stereotypical parents that you will meet in the schoolyard and reading how Jen interacts with them and navigates classroom politics will have you laughing out loud.  My favorite parts of the book were the emails from Jen to the other parents in her book which are truly hilarious and are all the things you might say if only you didn't have a filter!

This book is a very relatable story of parenthood, classroom politics and the demands we place on ourselves (and others!) when it comes to raising children.  Laurie Gelman's tongue in cheek humor will have you rolling with laughter and force you to look on the sometimes crazy side of school life. I highly recommend this book as an escape that promises laughs and eye rolls in agreement!  Pick up your copy today at your local bookstore or on Amazon here.

I am so excited to tell you that the publisher, Henry Holt and Company is giving one lucky Reviewed by Mom reader a copy of Class Mom by Laurie Gelman!  Thanks so much to the sponsor and good luck.

I've never been a class mom. I'm happy to HELP the class mom however I can -- I'll make cupcakes, I'll sell trash bags, whatever -- but I don't need the aggravation of being the class mom myself!

I've never had the actual title. But, where we live, many don't help out, so I think those that did, were the unofficial class mom's.

I have never been a class mom. And, back when I was young, we didn't have them. It's crazy how much pressure is put on parents these days to be perfect.

This book looks wonderful! I've never been specifically a 'class mom', but I've done volunteering at the schools and was also 'cookie mom' for my daughter's girl scout troops. I've met all kinds of moms...and as an 'older mom', I was often a bit calmer and not as neurotic as some that I've met!
